4 Indoor Oregon Coast Activities for a Rainy Day

Rainy day along the Oregon Coast? No problem! There are plenty of things to do to keep you occupied! While the beauty of the coast begs for outdoor adventures and activities, there are enjoyable indoor Oregon Coast activities that bring the outdoors inside.

Oregon Coast Aquarium

Located in nearby Newport, the Oregon Coast Aquarium is one of Oregon’s top attractions and one of the top aquariums in the U.S. The facility rests on 23 acres along the Yaquina Bay and is home to one of the largest underwater exhibits with the Passages of the Deep, the former tank of the orca, Keiko that starred in the movie Free Willy. Outside it also houses the largest outdoor Seabird Aviary in the U.S., where you can see tufted puffins, common murre, and other seabirds.

Visit a local winery

What would be more enjoyable than a glass of wine on a rainy day? Many tasting rooms dot the Oregon Coast, with a few located here in Depoe Bay and nearby. Stop in at Depoe Bay Winery, located in the heart of town. Or head down HWY 1 towards Otter Crest to sample some varietals at the Flying Dutchman Winery.

A bowl of clam chowder

Comfort food, like a bowl of clam chowder, goes hand in hand with a gloomy rainy day. Luckily, there are many opportunities to sample this seafood classic right here in Depoe Bay.

Gracie’s Sea Hag

Gracie’s Sea Hag is home to some of the best chowder along the Oregon Coast. Reviewed by the New York Times, Gracie’s chowder satisfies tasters with a clam broth with spices that are out of this world.

A local favorite since 1970, the Chowder Bowl is another great option for a bowl of clam chowder.

Mo’s Seafood, West Otter Rock

You can’t have a conversation about clam chowder along the Oregon Coast without mentioning Mo’s Seafood. With several locations including Cannon Beach, Lincoln City, Newport, and Florence, the Otter Rock location is your closest to Depoe Bay.
