Whether you already have your trip booked or are looking to put something on the calendar for next year, we’ve got you covered! No matter when you decide to visit, there is something for you to enjoy. Discover below, our Depoe Bay trip planner, so start planning today!

January

Start the new year off with a big splash and see the King Tides that make their way to our shores every January. The King Tides happen when the moon is closest to the Earth, typically occurring during a new moon phase, resulting in a higher than normal tide. Combined with coastal storms, waves can reach as high as 35 feet! It’s truly a spectacular sight to see!

February

Plan a romantic getaway for two at the Channel House. Our rooms and suites offer a romantic nature with our private balconies (some with soaking tubs), warming fireplaces, and endless ocean views. Make your stay even more enjoyable with one of our wine or champagne packages, or a relaxing in-room massage! It’s a great way to say I love you!

March

Mid-march begins the whale migration back to Alaska from Mexico. The moms and calves tend to stay closer to shore this time of year, so the chances of spotting them are great! Aside from the winter whale watching season, spring is the peak time to spot a whale.

April

See the puffins! The Puffin is a coastal bird and is an iconic species of the Oregon Coast. From mid-April to August, large colonies of nesting puffins can be seen along Oregon’s coast. Haystack Rock, in Cannon Beach, is home to the coast’s largest breeding population.

May

May is Oregon Wine Month. And what better way to celebrate than with a visit to one of our local wineries. In town, visit Depoe Bay Winery, known for their world-class pinot noir and chardonnay. Or head on over to the nearby Flying Dutchman Winery, where you can enjoy a tasting while sitting on their outdoor patio complete with coastal views.

June

As temperatures begin to warm, hit the trails along the coast. There are several hiking options near Depoe Bay that make for a great day excursion. Our area state parks and natural areas also feature hiking trails near the coast.

July

Get out to sea and book a fishing charter with one of our local companies here in Depoe Bay. Many visitors like to take to the open seas during their time in Depoe Bay, whether it’s to go whale watching or to go fishing. Most charter companies offer full and half-day options, some even multi-day trips.

August

August is a great time to spend a day at the beach. While Depoe Bay itself isn’t home to sandy beaches, it is perfectly positioned on the Oregon Coast with some only a short drive away, such as the neighboring Lincoln City beach.

September

For over 65 years Depoe Bay has hosted the Depoe Bay Salmon Bake. Filled with culture, rich heritage, and delicious salmon, this unique festival is a “must-see” during your vacation.

October

Early fall brings about what some refer to as “the second summer.” Late September into October can provide some of the nicest weather of the year. With barely any wind, crystal blue skies, and the warmest temperatures of the year, it’s one of our favorite times of the year.

November

November is the perfect time to enjoy Dungeness crabs. Go crabbing on the coast and pick up your own or visit one of Depoe Bay’s restaurants to get a taste. Gracie’s Sea Hag and Mo’s Seafood & Chowder are great casual dining options for a quick bite. Or for more of a fine dining experience, check out Restaurant Beck.

December

Yes, winter storm watching is a thing here along the Oregon Coast. Winter storms bring in a large amount of rain, wind, and larger-than-life waves. These storms can put on quite the show and are a big attraction along the coast during the winter months.
